Hex Shelves

Hexagon Shelves - Yes please!

Ideas :

  • 5 to 6 shelves

  • LED lights?

  • 10-12 inch sides

  • 6 inches wide

  • hard wood natural (maple or walnut)

  • Mix up wood types? stain?

  • Do I want to add resin with ferns or greenery to the back? It also could light up with the led.

  • Do I want to make a hexagon resin ball pendent light? If so, could use a remote LED as well. Foliage in it? Colored? personalized for the family ?

What is needed:

  • Miter Saw

  • wood glue

  • wood*

  • sander

  • LED lights*

  • hanging brakets

  • stain/wood treatment

  • Tape

  • nailer/ compressor

process thoughts:

  • measure 11' for 3 sections only - use Pine first to "test"

  • set Miter to 30 degres

  • Piece the 3 together and confirm Size - decide on 5 or 6 units

  • Cut 6 equal sides with 30 degree angels

  • Lay down tape in a line longer than the sum of the 6 pieces

  • lay the pieces on top on the tape long side down barely touching. Make sure to start at the vary end of the tape so the overlap is only on one side

  • add glue to all sides that will touch

  • roll up the boards to form the hex and overlap the tape to hold the wood while it dries

  • make sure to wipe off the excess wood glue before it dries

  • use finishing brads to hold

  • add lighting - we may have some lights but would prefer battery operated with remote in a line and color changing/ Dimming

Final Thoughts :

to go behind the eat in benches. Should it be on one wall or the corner two. Also - how cute would it be to use my cricut to make the letters in our names in mini Hex shelves that connect like scrabble pieces/crossword/hunnycomb.
